Tailgating Fun!! March 4, 2007

I got my Grill to Go Advantage just recently and have been very pleased so far. The makers of the Grill 2 Go appear to have heard some of the criticisms of earlier models and taken that into consideration with this grill. The open flame cooking is preferable to the previous models, it is still easy to transport, and it has made tailgating with friends before watching my Tarheels play basketball a lot of fun. I completely disagree with the other reviewer who seems to be reviewing the wrong product since this grill does not use a non-stick cooking surface for the cooking area.

Solid but not exceptional, September 23, 2008
By J. Douglas Ritchie “Tha Rocketman” (North Little Rock, AR)

Before I purchased this grill I was looking for the Char-Broil Fire & Ice Grill (the one with the cooler below); however they have discontinued it for some weird reason. So I researched this one for my tailgate and decided to give it a try. I normally use charcoal however it is such a mess and the smoke blows over into others tailgates which is a little rude.

PROS: Great portable grill; love the side tables; 16 oz propane tank lasted hours (which is very nice); cute little extras like a flag and extra propane tank holder, a holder for paper towels and a holder for the propane tank in use; LED lights are a nice touch; very light considering how large this grill is; has a Non-Stick Teflon coated griddle (good for breakfast items); has a grease collector under the grill; has an ignitior, very easy to setup and start cooking

CONS: You have to assemble this grill out of the box (takes about an hour) and this was disappointing;
MOST DISAPPOINTING FEATURE…you cannot just extend the legs of the base and start grilling, you must take the grill off, extend the legs and set the grill on top of the base, this again applies if you want to collapse the grill, you must take the grill off the base collapse the legs and place the grill back on top; does not have a propane gauge letting you know how much gas is left; make sure it is on a level surface, we tried to make scrambled eggs and they ran off the griddle down to the bottom of the grill

Overall if you can catch this grill on sale it is worth the money (purchased mine for around $160 on Amazon). I still believe a $200 grill should have some extra features like a propane gauge, and the grill should be able to setup without taking it on and off the base.

***PS:Thermos sells a carrying bag for the Grill 2 Go; however it does NOT fit this model. You can fit the grill but not the legs. Returned the carrying bag to Amazon and had my $40 refunded.***

Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Gas Grill

The Weber Q 320 portable gas grill has 2 tubular stainless steel burners with 21,700 BTU-per-hour input, 393 sq. in. total cooking area., electronic ignition for easy, reliable lighting, an infinitely adjustable burner valve with a high-quality regulator, 2 removable, durable work tables, sturdy glass-reinforced nylon grill frame, cast aluminum lid and body, removable catch pan, center-mounted thermometer, a large weather-resistant lid handle, Grill-Out handle light, a 2 piece porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grate, and operates on a standard 20 lb. propane tank (sold separately). Includes Weber Q recipe booklet. Limited 5-year warranty.

Barbecue up to 18 burgers, 36 hot dogs, or 2 whole chickens at a time with this portable gas grill. The Weber Q 320 bolts into a stationary cart (included). Other design details include two porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates; a removable catch pan; and a cast-aluminum lid and body with a sturdy glass-reinforced nylon frame. The grill also provides a taller lid profile with a center-mounted thermometer, Grill Out handle light, and large weather-resistant handle.

This great gas grill also supplies two removable folding worktables with tool hooks, and it bolts onto the included stationary cart, which offers rolling wheels for smooth mobility and a screen to hide the propane tank. An adapter hose comes included for connecting the grill to a standard 20-pound LP tank. Not sure what to grill first? Weber throws in a handy recipe booklet for getting started. With the lid open and the tables folded down, the grill measures 22 by 36-1/2 by 55-1/2 inches.

Been waiting for awhile to find a good deal on this, but Amazon’s got the best price with shipping you are going to find. $0.01, doesn’t get much better than that. What surprised the heck out of me was ordering early Thursday morning and finding at my doorstep Friday before noon. FedEx overnight, somebody loves me. This was supposed to ship ground.

I’ve bought a Weber Q several years ago, so I already know what the fuss is about. Cast iron grill, great cook platform, etc. I’ve never used a cover, so over the years, I’ve had to replace burners, etc. as they corroded and degraded. Not Weber’s fault, but Weber customer service is the greatest, 24/7 etc., cheerfully helped identify what I needed and sent me the replacement parts.

I’ve been enviously looking at the 300 and when I saw the specs on the 320, I knew I was looking at my next Weber.

I thought I knew what I was getting, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I unboxed. This one is even cleverer than the original.

Stationary Cart is a well thought out design. Stable, with safety features I’ve never seen implemented as well. The Tank storage system that locks the propane tank in place so it can’t shift and also provides the cart with a counterweight to help prevent tips is a marvel by itself. The collapsible shelf system is elegant and functional while feeling more substantial than the Q200’s fixed shelfs.

The slightly larger cooking area is served by split cast iron grills instead of the single grill piece used by the Q200. This actually makes this grill easier to clean and service, while taking nothing away from the cook area. A stainless steel warming rack is a nice place to put up food from the grill surface. Just sits there but is totally substantial and stable.

A second burning tube, stainless steel to prevent rusting out provides the additional heat and controls to bring the grill up to the temperatures I need to cook in colder weather. 40degrees last night, and the grill still heated up to over 400 degrees in about 5 minutes.

Thermostat is simple, and will be easy to replace in the event of breakage or failure. This has an integral BBQ light that has a sensor that automatically turns it off when the lid is lowered. Very cool.

I have never been satisfied with the old style igniter on the previous Q models. The Q320 now has a electronic igniter that works great. Uses a AAA battery. Press a button and poof. Weber’s lit. The outer burner ignites the center burner automatically.

Assembly was easy with two of us, but this could have been assembled easily by one person. Directions could have been better, but pictures worked fine.

Food tastes great. Looking foward to putting through it’s paces this summer.

Already bought my grill cover. This time I don’t plan on abusing Weber Customer service as much.

Originally planned on gettin’ the Weber Summit S-320 but at $980 (the cost of livin’ in paradise), it was pricey enough to give pause. Decided on the Q 300 when I realized that I would only be cookin’ for a dozen at most. Locally, the Q 300 was priced at $377. When I discovered that Amazon had the upgraded 300 series for $18 less, I jumped at the opportunity. And $0.01 shipping – 2 day FedEx no less – made it a sweeter deal.

This compact grill heats faster and cooks better than any $300 big box model, even if said model is rated at > 40,000 btu and the Q 320 is “only” 21,700 btu. Sears steaks and veges like no one’s business and also does great roasting with the burners turned down. A snap to assemble (no cussing required) and also pleasing to the eye.

If you’re looking for your 1st grill, get the Q 320. If you’re looking for a replacement grill, get the Q 320. If don’t need a grill but have $359.01 lying around, get the Q 320.

Great Grill for Everyday Use! May 13, 2008

I’ve been using a Q100 / Baby Q for over 2 years now, and am still impressed by the quality of the product and what I’m able to do with it given it’s small size. Here’s the set up:

Q100 Grill
Weber Cart
Bulk tank adapter
5-lb. propane tank

The grill surface is large enough for a family of four. Six 1/3 lb. burgers fit well enough; more and they are hard to turn. I’ve also been able to do two average sized tri-tips at once. The lid isn’t tall enough to allow a whole chicken. I was a bit wary of the 8K BTU rating at first, but the grill heats up just fine- it will do a wonderful sear on pretty much anything after 7-10 minutes of preheat. The heat is also very even, with the virtually whole grill surface usable. The best thing about the small burner is fuel efficiency; 5 lbs. of propane lasts all season (in SoCal!) at 1-2 uses per week. Please note that this is a single burner grill with a ring-shaped burner. Indirect cooking isn’t really possible although on low heat, one can get close enough to do justice to a tri-tip.

I’ve only got a couple of small complaints… First, the support ring for the portable tank (at least with the Baby Q) only accepted 14 oz. propane bottles- the kind used with plumber’s torches. They are more expensive than the 16 oz. bottles used for camping. I just made my own 16 oz. bottle ring out of a heavy coat hanger. Of course with the bulk tank, this is a non-issue. The 5 lb. tank (from Home Depot) is pretty small. Second, the grill is somewhat sensitive to wind. A good breeze blowing through the sides causes a definite loss of temperature above the grill surface, under the lid. Cooking is still possible but times go up about 30-40%. Last, the holes in the burner can get clogged up, especially when there’s a lot of liquid pouring off the grill surface. I’ve had to ‘unclog’ parts of the burner with a push-pin a couple of times now.

Anyway, I love the product as it’s about 75% of a full-size grill at 1/3 the size and 1/4 the price, within its limits (grill area). I think the only thing I’d do differently is get the version with the side tables (Q120).

Last year when I bought this grill, over 100 people had written 4 plus star reviews. So I took their advice and bought this grill, you can see those reviews if you look for Baby Q.

A year later I still love cooking on the Q. I cook for three plus leftovers. The heavy grate is fantastic, all the other grills had thin, flimsy grates. I love grilling with the Q, I can cook dinner in 15-20 minutes.
I hooked mine up to a 5 lb propane tank. The five lb tank is the smallest tank you can buy, I can cook for a month on it.

This grill starts out hot for 6 months, then to get it to grill hot with a propane tank… turn tank on slowly, over ten seconds, and then light grill at the end of two minutes.

Lots of people use tanks with this grill.Weber does not like it, but the support women will talk you through set up if you ask nice. The weber hot line is veryhelpful with cooking suggestions, I had a temp problem they helped me resolve, but buy the book.

Get a stop watch,a basting brush, tongs, grill brush and read the Webber grilling book. This makes a huge difference in the quality of your cooking, I mean it, follow a few directions to get sucess everytime. The weber book is worth is for the grilling time charts.

Leaving charcoal behind took me way too long… this is superior.
Support from Weber is wonderful….
So buy this grill and have fun cooking this summer.

Another year later I am still in love with my grill. The heavy cast iron grate is what makes ths grill superior to other, cheaper grills. My friends bought the cheaper ones, the food sticks, and burns on. You must clean the grate when the grill is hot, after cooking, it takes about one minutes of scarping with the grill brush. My friends with the cheap grills never want to grill, their grills are dirty and a pain to clean. My grill is always ready to go.
