Coleman 9941-768 Road Trip Grill (Blue)

This Coleman Road Trip Grill folds small for easy storage but opens into a full-sized propane grill with a generous 285 sq. in. cooking surface.

Tote it easily to a tailgate party or picnic for delicious flame grilled food on the road or off the beaten path. 20,000 BTUs offer hotter, faster cooking and the removable Mix & Match surfaces let you use it as a grill, griddle or stove. Use it on the stand (included) or on your tabletop. Includes matchless lighting, 2 fully adjustable, independently controlled burners and lid locks for secure transportation. Operates on 16.4-ounce propane cylinder or adaptable to a 20-pound tank (propane cylinder, tank hose, and tank sold separately)

Tired of taking your funky hibachi to the ballpark every time you want to tailgate? Turn to the Coleman Road Trip Grill, an authentic open-flame grill that packs up compactly for easy transport and storage. The burners are powerful enough for both cold-weather and high-altitude cooking, so you can use the Road Trip Grill in destinations like Green Bay, Denver, and Buffalo, N.Y. Perhaps the coolest feature, however, is the collapsible frame, which holds the grill at a standard cooking level in its open position, but folds up in seconds when it’s time to go. There’s no easier way to enjoy the versatility of a full-size upright grill and the convenience of a portable unit.

Coleman Road Trip Grill (Blue) Features:

 • Collapsible propane grill ideal for tailgating at sporting events and picnics
• Pair of fully adjustable 20,000 BTU burners with porcelain-coated cast-iron grates
• Chassis collapses in seconds for transport
• Two detachable side tables
• Convenient storage hooks for cooking utensils
• Removable grease drip pan
• Easy pushbutton ignition
• Runs on disposable 16.4-ounce propane cylinder

“The grill that saved camping” October 2, 2002

We purchased this Road Trip after having a horrible experience with a grill from Cabelas. That grill had the lava rocks that moved every time you moved the grill and besides that the legs fell off. We were looking for something that would have fold under legs and no rocks. The Road Trip saved our camping days. We purchased a bag for it, keep it stored in the belly of the camper and with putting water in the tray below the burners, it is very very easy to clean up. You can place this on the picnic table to cook on or use the fold down legs. We have also discovered that this is the best way to cook grilled onions and potatoes or pork chops or chicken, etc on the griddle. Very very convenient and easy clean up. We both rate this a 5 stars. Great job, Coleman. Signed happy camper, Janet Becker

This grill replaced our old gas grill at home. In four years I’ve went through 4 grills to rust that occurs naturally here, just by a metal object being outside. I wanted a solution to finally eliminate that problem. This fits the bill with the fold up capability, and the storage bag to keep it fresh. You’re still cooking over an open flame with the grill plate.

It comes with a griddle and a grill, each covering half of the cooking area, and I’ve obtained a 20-lb tank attachment, and an extra grill, for the big jobs. Try this feature out: the grill, griddle, and drip trays are washable in the dishwasher…. I can’t say that about my old grills.

A Tailgaters Delight December 24, 2003

I cannot say enough about this product. It is absolutely great for tailgating or any other activity where you want a grill on the go. During this past football season, we on average cooked 50-75 bratwursts and hotdogs. The grill holds about 30 at one time, so in no time you can make sure to get everyone fed. The grill is reliable, easy to set-up and breakdown, and heats up immediately. The electric start is also a huge bonus, especially in windy situations.

Couple of notes:
The grill comes standard with a grill and a griddle, but if you are into serious grilling then I recommend you can purchase a separate grill to replace the griddle for more grilling area. Second, Coleman sells a carrying/rolling case which is a must have for tailgating/camping. The case lets you pack everything into a small compact set and keeps your car clean when transporting. Finally, if you are seriously into grilling on the go purchase a one-gallon gas tank, the grill is highly efficient and you will get a significant amount of use out of the smaller tank.

Tailgating Fun!! March 4, 2007

I got my Grill to Go Advantage just recently and have been very pleased so far. The makers of the Grill 2 Go appear to have heard some of the criticisms of earlier models and taken that into consideration with this grill. The open flame cooking is preferable to the previous models, it is still easy to transport, and it has made tailgating with friends before watching my Tarheels play basketball a lot of fun. I completely disagree with the other reviewer who seems to be reviewing the wrong product since this grill does not use a non-stick cooking surface for the cooking area.

Solid but not exceptional, September 23, 2008
By J. Douglas Ritchie “Tha Rocketman” (North Little Rock, AR)

Before I purchased this grill I was looking for the Char-Broil Fire & Ice Grill (the one with the cooler below); however they have discontinued it for some weird reason. So I researched this one for my tailgate and decided to give it a try. I normally use charcoal however it is such a mess and the smoke blows over into others tailgates which is a little rude.

PROS: Great portable grill; love the side tables; 16 oz propane tank lasted hours (which is very nice); cute little extras like a flag and extra propane tank holder, a holder for paper towels and a holder for the propane tank in use; LED lights are a nice touch; very light considering how large this grill is; has a Non-Stick Teflon coated griddle (good for breakfast items); has a grease collector under the grill; has an ignitior, very easy to setup and start cooking

CONS: You have to assemble this grill out of the box (takes about an hour) and this was disappointing;
MOST DISAPPOINTING FEATURE…you cannot just extend the legs of the base and start grilling, you must take the grill off, extend the legs and set the grill on top of the base, this again applies if you want to collapse the grill, you must take the grill off the base collapse the legs and place the grill back on top; does not have a propane gauge letting you know how much gas is left; make sure it is on a level surface, we tried to make scrambled eggs and they ran off the griddle down to the bottom of the grill

Overall if you can catch this grill on sale it is worth the money (purchased mine for around $160 on Amazon). I still believe a $200 grill should have some extra features like a propane gauge, and the grill should be able to setup without taking it on and off the base.

***PS:Thermos sells a carrying bag for the Grill 2 Go; however it does NOT fit this model. You can fit the grill but not the legs. Returned the carrying bag to Amazon and had my $40 refunded.***

Been waiting for awhile to find a good deal on this, but Amazon’s got the best price with shipping you are going to find. $0.01, doesn’t get much better than that. What surprised the heck out of me was ordering early Thursday morning and finding at my doorstep Friday before noon. FedEx overnight, somebody loves me. This was supposed to ship ground.

I’ve bought a Weber Q several years ago, so I already know what the fuss is about. Cast iron grill, great cook platform, etc. I’ve never used a cover, so over the years, I’ve had to replace burners, etc. as they corroded and degraded. Not Weber’s fault, but Weber customer service is the greatest, 24/7 etc., cheerfully helped identify what I needed and sent me the replacement parts.

I’ve been enviously looking at the 300 and when I saw the specs on the 320, I knew I was looking at my next Weber.

I thought I knew what I was getting, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I unboxed. This one is even cleverer than the original.

Stationary Cart is a well thought out design. Stable, with safety features I’ve never seen implemented as well. The Tank storage system that locks the propane tank in place so it can’t shift and also provides the cart with a counterweight to help prevent tips is a marvel by itself. The collapsible shelf system is elegant and functional while feeling more substantial than the Q200’s fixed shelfs.

The slightly larger cooking area is served by split cast iron grills instead of the single grill piece used by the Q200. This actually makes this grill easier to clean and service, while taking nothing away from the cook area. A stainless steel warming rack is a nice place to put up food from the grill surface. Just sits there but is totally substantial and stable.

A second burning tube, stainless steel to prevent rusting out provides the additional heat and controls to bring the grill up to the temperatures I need to cook in colder weather. 40degrees last night, and the grill still heated up to over 400 degrees in about 5 minutes.

Thermostat is simple, and will be easy to replace in the event of breakage or failure. This has an integral BBQ light that has a sensor that automatically turns it off when the lid is lowered. Very cool.

I have never been satisfied with the old style igniter on the previous Q models. The Q320 now has a electronic igniter that works great. Uses a AAA battery. Press a button and poof. Weber’s lit. The outer burner ignites the center burner automatically.

Assembly was easy with two of us, but this could have been assembled easily by one person. Directions could have been better, but pictures worked fine.

Food tastes great. Looking foward to putting through it’s paces this summer.

Already bought my grill cover. This time I don’t plan on abusing Weber Customer service as much.

Originally planned on gettin’ the Weber Summit S-320 but at $980 (the cost of livin’ in paradise), it was pricey enough to give pause. Decided on the Q 300 when I realized that I would only be cookin’ for a dozen at most. Locally, the Q 300 was priced at $377. When I discovered that Amazon had the upgraded 300 series for $18 less, I jumped at the opportunity. And $0.01 shipping – 2 day FedEx no less – made it a sweeter deal.

This compact grill heats faster and cooks better than any $300 big box model, even if said model is rated at > 40,000 btu and the Q 320 is “only” 21,700 btu. Sears steaks and veges like no one’s business and also does great roasting with the burners turned down. A snap to assemble (no cussing required) and also pleasing to the eye.

If you’re looking for your 1st grill, get the Q 320. If you’re looking for a replacement grill, get the Q 320. If don’t need a grill but have $359.01 lying around, get the Q 320.

Weber 386002 Q-100 Portable Gas Grill

The Weber Q 100 portable gas grill has push-button ignition for easy reliable lighting, an infinitely adjustable burner valve with a high-quality regulator, sturdy glass-reinforced nylon grill frame, cast aluminum lid and body, a large weather-resistant lid handle, a porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grate, and operates on a standard 14.1 or 16.4 ounce propane cylinders (sold separately). Includes Weber Q recipe booklet.

Weber crafted the grill’s lid and body in tough cast aluminum with a sturdy glass-reinforced nylon frame. The grill ignites at the push of a button for reliable lighting, and an infinitely adjustable burner valve with a high-quality regulator makes it easy to control the heat. Meat sizzles on the porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates, while drippings follow the drip ducts to reduce potential flare-ups and enable quicker cleaning.

Other highlights include a flavorizer system integrated into the cooking grate, a removable catch pan, and a large weather-resistant lid handle. The grill operates on a standard 14.1- or 16.4-ounce propane cylinder. Propane does not come included, but Weber does enclose a Weber Q cookbook of recipes and inspiration. The grill measures 16 by 27 by 23-1/2 inches with the lid open and carries a five-year limited warranty.

Great Grill for Everyday Use! May 13, 2008

I’ve been using a Q100 / Baby Q for over 2 years now, and am still impressed by the quality of the product and what I’m able to do with it given it’s small size. Here’s the set up:

Q100 Grill
Weber Cart
Bulk tank adapter
5-lb. propane tank

The grill surface is large enough for a family of four. Six 1/3 lb. burgers fit well enough; more and they are hard to turn. I’ve also been able to do two average sized tri-tips at once. The lid isn’t tall enough to allow a whole chicken. I was a bit wary of the 8K BTU rating at first, but the grill heats up just fine- it will do a wonderful sear on pretty much anything after 7-10 minutes of preheat. The heat is also very even, with the virtually whole grill surface usable. The best thing about the small burner is fuel efficiency; 5 lbs. of propane lasts all season (in SoCal!) at 1-2 uses per week. Please note that this is a single burner grill with a ring-shaped burner. Indirect cooking isn’t really possible although on low heat, one can get close enough to do justice to a tri-tip.

I’ve only got a couple of small complaints… First, the support ring for the portable tank (at least with the Baby Q) only accepted 14 oz. propane bottles- the kind used with plumber’s torches. They are more expensive than the 16 oz. bottles used for camping. I just made my own 16 oz. bottle ring out of a heavy coat hanger. Of course with the bulk tank, this is a non-issue. The 5 lb. tank (from Home Depot) is pretty small. Second, the grill is somewhat sensitive to wind. A good breeze blowing through the sides causes a definite loss of temperature above the grill surface, under the lid. Cooking is still possible but times go up about 30-40%. Last, the holes in the burner can get clogged up, especially when there’s a lot of liquid pouring off the grill surface. I’ve had to ‘unclog’ parts of the burner with a push-pin a couple of times now.

Anyway, I love the product as it’s about 75% of a full-size grill at 1/3 the size and 1/4 the price, within its limits (grill area). I think the only thing I’d do differently is get the version with the side tables (Q120).

Last year when I bought this grill, over 100 people had written 4 plus star reviews. So I took their advice and bought this grill, you can see those reviews if you look for Baby Q.

A year later I still love cooking on the Q. I cook for three plus leftovers. The heavy grate is fantastic, all the other grills had thin, flimsy grates. I love grilling with the Q, I can cook dinner in 15-20 minutes.
I hooked mine up to a 5 lb propane tank. The five lb tank is the smallest tank you can buy, I can cook for a month on it.

This grill starts out hot for 6 months, then to get it to grill hot with a propane tank… turn tank on slowly, over ten seconds, and then light grill at the end of two minutes.

Lots of people use tanks with this grill.Weber does not like it, but the support women will talk you through set up if you ask nice. The weber hot line is veryhelpful with cooking suggestions, I had a temp problem they helped me resolve, but buy the book.

Get a stop watch,a basting brush, tongs, grill brush and read the Webber grilling book. This makes a huge difference in the quality of your cooking, I mean it, follow a few directions to get sucess everytime. The weber book is worth is for the grilling time charts.

Leaving charcoal behind took me way too long… this is superior.
Support from Weber is wonderful….
So buy this grill and have fun cooking this summer.

Another year later I am still in love with my grill. The heavy cast iron grate is what makes ths grill superior to other, cheaper grills. My friends bought the cheaper ones, the food sticks, and burns on. You must clean the grate when the grill is hot, after cooking, it takes about one minutes of scarping with the grill brush. My friends with the cheap grills never want to grill, their grills are dirty and a pain to clean. My grill is always ready to go.

My family purchased a roadtrip grill 2 years ago to use for camping and we absolutely love it. The Stove Grate accessory made it even better, we use it for cooking, making coffee, heating up water for cocoa, washing, & etc. We are about to purchase a second grate as well. If you’re thinking about purchasing an accessory griddle I recommend getting one of these instead and then use a pan.

Good Item, July 5, 2007
By D. Hill “Garden Diva” (Torrington CT USA)

Heavy weight cover but I wish it were a zipper type bag instead since we store our grill in our trailer and use it for camping-this cover really does not get used the way it would if it were a zipper style carry bag for that reason and because we keep our “kitchen” under cover when camping any way. If you use your grill on your deck or store it outdoors all the time this would work perfectly. If you are using this grill as a “take along” item only then you can do without it.

Very impressed!, December 27, 2008

This is a very heavy duty cover. It is made to fit the largest RoadTrip model (Pro). I have the LXE model which is smaller, but the cover fits nicely and does not seem too large. It stays in place even in high wind conditions. The cover is easy to get off and on.

James Purviance, author of Weber’s Way to Grill:The step-by-Step Guide to Expert Grilling (Oxmoor House, 2009) offers these simple steps for grilling ease.

Set up two or three heat zones, with a hot side and a cold side. “This way you are not locked into one heat if things aren’t going right,” Purviance says.

Oil the food, not the grill. The food will be less likely to stick, and you will use less oil. Allow sufficient pre-heat time to get the grilling surface nice and hot.

Keep the lid closed. That keeps the grate hotter for searing foods, prevents flare-ups because less air is getting in to fuel the flame ad traps some of the smoke to better flavor the food.

Many American families will forego the traditional summer vacation travel this year and spend more time than ever making home-spun fun in the sun at the backyard barbecue. But if your version of barbecuing involves the same old fare and familiar flavors, it’s time to spice up your old standby.

Here are some simple ways to add just the right amount of sizzle and style to any standard backyard barbecue.

Create a Fun Toppings Bar
Americans love familiar fare, but it’s important to infuse your own style. Add a toppings bar to make ordinary barbecue staples like burgers and steaks a little more extraordinary. Stock your toppings bar with all of the usual suspects, like ketchup and mustard and be sure to include a variety of out-of-the-box toppings to spice things up.

Chili, hummus, mango salsa, horseradish and caramelized onions are a few options that add an extra kick. Also, try incorporating new twists on traditional favorites. Lea & Perrins new Thick Classic Worcestershire sauce offers the flavor you crave from original Worcestershire in a sauce that’s now thick enough for dipping and topping and perfect for adding a flavor boost to any grilled food.

Infuse the Flavor In Advance
Marinating your meat ahead of time is a simple step you can take to boost flavor in a big way. Consider the following steps to create a marinade that’s simple and sure to satisfy. Combine a half cup of Lea & Perrins’ traditional Worcestershire Sauce, three tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil, one-fourth teaspoon salt, and three tablespoons Heinz Balsamic Vinegar in a baking dish or plastic bag and pour it over your meat. Marinate in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

You can also add flavor in advance with a variety of flavorful rubs. Many grill jockeys massage their meat with a spicy rub, while others content themselves with a light sprinkling. Whether you massage it in or sprinkle on top, these savory spice rubs have the ability to transform ordinary grilled meat into a barbecue of distinction.

Hit a Home Run with Savory Side Dishes
Offer an array of summer sides as yet another way to tantalize the taste buds. Consider a grilled vegetable medley over couscous or cut sweet potatoes grilled in foil with a touch of brown sugar and apple butter. For fruit inspired sides, fresh pineapple and a barbecue pit make a perfect pair. Or, place halved mangoes, peaches, plums, or apricots flesh-side down on an oiled grate until they look caramelized and serve with a scoop of ice cream. By offering a variety of sides, you’re appealing to various palates and creating a grilling extravaganza everyone will enjoy.

Turn up the Heat with Open-Fire Cooking
An open flame barbecue pit is a sure-fire way to unleash flavor. With a little know-how, even a novice can cook creatively at the open-fire barbecue. Begin the fire at least two to three hours in advance so the coals are sufficiently hot. The cooking fire can be built in a portable charcoal grill, a fire ring, or simply a trench dug in the ground. Top it with a piece of wire mesh or create a cooking grate with the metal grid from your existing grill.

Because the food absorbs flavor from the smoke below, you’ll want to use a good-smelling hard wood such as hickory, white oak, mesquite, or fruit woods. The key is to create a low bed of coals so that you don’t overcook the meat or cook it too fast. Also, keep in mind cooking on an open flame takes a bit more time and patience, so the best tip is to simply slow down, relax and enjoy!

Keep it Fun with Flavors for Everyone
The backyard barbecue is as much about family time as it is about the food. Be sure to include flavorful options that everyone in the family will enjoy. To lure the kids, try grilling pre-cooked meatballs and offer toothpicks and pasta sauce for dipping. Or, change up their typical hot dog by serving it wrapped in a tortilla shell with melted cheese and diced tomatoes. For the adults, add an element of interest to burgers and steaks with options such as Greek-style lamb burgers or grilled London broil sandwiches. Whatever you decide, just be sure to keep it interesting and fun for everyone.
